The context: The Inclusive Mainstream Fund
The Department for Education announced the Inclusive Mainstream Fund (IMF) for all mainstream primary and secondary schools in England back in February. Now we're in the new school year and you should have received your fund allocation. So where do you start?
The IMF grant must be used on activity that makes your school more inclusive. Schools are required to explain how they're using the fund to embed inclusive practice in an inclusion strategy which must be published on your school website by December 31. Your two pathways for allocating this fund are as follows:
- Improving the inclusivity of your universal practice
- Developing targeted evidence-based support.
Using the IMF on your targeted support
This webinar will focus on the targeted evidence-based support pathway. If you are confident that you have a well-established inclusive universal offer, you are encouraged to use this fund to focus on meeting the needs of your most vulnerable pupils. This is where targeted support comes in. Small group interventions can provide the tailored support required to break down more complex barriers to learning affecting pupils with SEND or other additional needs. The Department for Education calls these inclusion bases. We call them nurture groups.
