We had the pleasure of visiting Oakridge Community Primary School in Hinderwell, North Yorkshire in the summer of 2025.
School context: Oakridge Community Primary School
The school is notable for its:
- Remote, rural and beautiful surroundings
- Small size - just 35 pupils in the whole school
- An incredible "stage not age" culture
- Whole-school embrace of nurture
Oakridge is a brilliant example of the unique ways that nurture adapts to every setting. No school is too big or too small. Watch the video below to get a feel for how special this school is.

The impact of nurture
The school have previously struggled with challenging behaviour in pupils, a lack of parental engagement, and a disconnect with the community around them. On their nurture journey, they have implemented many relational practices such as shifting to restorative justice language, a change in behavioural policy, increased pupil voice and leadership activities, and more parental and community activities.
