This live online session will explore the importance of helping young people navigate the macro and micro transitions faced throughout their education journey.

We will cover:

  • Defining Transitions: Understanding transitions as a process of change affecting environments, relationships, routines, and expectations.
  • Micro vs. Macro Transitions: Distinguishing between everyday changes (e.g., moving between learning spaces) and major life shifts (e.g., primary to secondary school).
  • Practical strategies: Learn techniques designed to ensure safety and stability during transitions through routines, visual cues, and countdowns.

This session introduces a variety of evidence-based resources and strategies to support your students:

  • The Transition Tool Box: A comprehensive set of 60 cards designed to build resilience, self-esteem, and goal-setting skills.
  • The Boxall Profile® Transitions Passport: A digital tool to track individual factors and assessments to support smooth pupil transitions.
  • Classroom Strategies: Guidance on using transitional objects, memory books’, and reflective time at the end of lessons.

This session is open to members of staff at schools registered on the Surrey Nurturing Schools Programme.

We will be running two twilight sessions so you can choose which date works best for you. Places are limited to two per setting. It is free to attend, but please register in advance.

All sessions are delivered via Zoom. There will be a short Q&A at the end of each session.
