Campaigning for nurture

We’ve spent decades spreading the word about the need for nurture in education.

This year, we’re going to be stepping up our campaigning work, and have exciting plans for new campaigns to raise awareness about the benefits of nurture, both for students and our society as a whole.

Our goal is to become a powerful voice not only for our members, but for every child, family and teacher in the UK. Watch this space!

The Fair Education Alliance

We’re proud to be part of the Fair Education Alliance (FEA), a coalition of over 100 UK organisations from across the education, charities and business sectors, which is dedicated to tackling educational inequality.

The Alliance’s aim is to end the achievement gap between young people from our poorest communities and their wealthier peers. FEA research has shown that if current trends continue, it would take over 500 years to close this gap, which has grown in many areas over the last few years. Children with special educational needs – including those with SEMH needs – are the most disadvantaged.

The Alliance has identified three key priorities:

An education system that develops the whole child

We need a system that values and incentivises pupils’ social and emotional development, alongside their academic achievement.

Great teachers and leaders

We need to support the great teachers in every school, and the visionary leaders who set a culture and environment that helps those teachers to deliver the best for their pupils.

Better guidance for 16-year-old students on their options

To help them make the right choices for their future, students need clear, timely information about the full range of options open to them, including both academic and technical routes.
