This three-day practical course is delivered on Zoom by our expert trainers.
It’s credit rated by the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at level 8. 

The course is in two parts:

Part 1: 2 consecutive days – 25 and 26 August 2026

Part 2: 1 day (4 – 6 weeks later) – 1st October 2026

It’s designed for:

  • Teachers and teaching assistants seeking practical relational strategies
  • SENCOs and inclusion leads wanting consistent practice
  • School leaders responsible for behaviour, SEMH or pupil engagement

It’s particularly suitable for educators and leaders setting up or working with nurture groups or in inclusion hubs or nurture rooms.

Rather than focusing on background theory alone, this course equips you to:

  • Understand the real drivers of behaviour and SEMH need
  • Translate neuroscience & attachment theory into actionable practice
  • Use the Six Principles of Nurture in everyday decisions
  • Build confident, consistent responses across your team
  • Reduce barriers to learning for vulnerable pupils

What you’ll learn

The course focuses on practical applications of the theory of nurture. You’ll learn about:

  • The theoretical framework underpinning nurture groups and nurturing approaches
  • How to apply the Six Nurture Principles
  • The relevance of early childhood experiences on the learning, development, and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • How attachment theory and neuroscience underpin nurture practice.
  • How to undertake a Boxall Profile® assessment and interpret its findings to plan a response to pupils’ needs

Assessment and certification

After three days of training, you’ll be encouraged to complete an assignment to be completed within 12 months. We’ll give you guidance and details of the assignment framework. 

If you achieve a pass grade for your assignment, you’ll gain 13 SCQF points at Level  8
