This course follows on from the Theory and Practice of the Boxall Profile® training you attended last term. It is the key component of the Surrey Nurturing Schools Programme, designed to support your setting to embed a whole-school inclusive culture and ethos.

Two people from your school, including one member of the Senior Leadership Team, must attend all 6 modules of the course, delivered via Zoom on the following dates:

Module 1 – Thursday 27th February 2025 – 9am – 12pm

Module 2 –  Thursday 13th March 2025 – 9am – 12pm

Module 3 – Thursday 20th March 2025 – 9am – 1pm  Please note this is a 4 hour session

4m Catch up – Thursday 19th June 2025 – 9am – 12pm

8m Catch up – Thursday 23rd October 2025 – 9am – 12pm

12m Catch up –  1 hour consultancy  session to be booked on a 1-1 basis with each school on 5th/12th March 2026.

Each group has a maximum number of 6 schools (12 delegates) to ensure good levels of participation and support.

It is preferable for you to participate in a quiet space, where you are unlikely to be disturbed, with one screen per person. Depending on your workplace’s security system, you might also find it tricky to access Zoom, in which case we recommend accessing the course from home (or any alternative location).

Course Overview

This course supports Quality First Teaching and Learning and promotes healthy outcomes for children and young people.  It does this by focusing on emotional and development needs, alongside academic learning, in a whole-school environment. This course is accredited by CPD Standards.

Course structure:

Modules 1-3 are  live group sessions, delivered in the first  month:

  • Module 1 covers a whole-school approach using the Six Principles of Nurture and the Boxall Profile®
  • Module 2 focuses upon the rationale for a whole-school approach,  including a consideration of attachment theory and neuroscience
  • Module 3 looks at the Nurturing Schools Programme audit framework and areas of development

Group catch-up sessions are held at 4 months and 8 months into the programme. These are an opportunity for schools to come together to review progress against the audit framework and get support to develop further.

After 4 months, you will also be given 400 “credits” to spend on additional consultancy, learning resources and training which you can book using a course menu. Your trainer will explain this menu to you.

At 12 months, schools can then book a 1 hour 1:1 session with their consultant. This session is tailored to the needs of your individual school and can support you to plan your application to the Nurturing Schools Award.

It is essential that both members of staff booked onto the course attend every session. If any sessions are not attended,  1:1 catch ups can be arranged with your consultant, however this time will be deducted from the total available credits you have available.

Course Materials:

Once enrolled, you will receive:

  • Access to our online learning platform with additional learning resources and activities
  • 1 copy of Beyond the Boxall Profile: Whole-Class Strategies per school
  • 1 workbook per person

Nurturing Schools Award:

Schools who complete the programme will have 6 months’ to apply for nurtureuk’s National Nurturing School Award. The award is recognition of your setting’s inclusive culture and the positive impact it has had on your whole school community.

If successful, schools receive an award certificate and plaque, valid for 3 years.
